Horizontes compartidos, en las palabras de Nelson Ramírez, director de la Bienal, es donde, a contracorriente, habita la utopía. Una bienal con una mirada del sur para el sur. 172 artistas cubanos y 230 artistas de los lugares más remotos del mundo. El Mural pintado en el Centro Wifredo Lam “No somos lo que fuimos; podemos ser mejores” forma parte de la conversación que tenemos como colectivo y cómo nuestra práctica está relacionada a nuestro entorno: La realidad que hurga en nuestro pasado y solo ve un futuro desolador que nos lleva a reflexionar, desde un presente suspendido, apelar por un optimismo perverso; donde como artistas abogamos por la transformación de ideales positivos y donde es posible pensar que mañana va a ser mejor.

Shared Horizons, in the words of Nelson Ramírez, the Biennial’s director, is where, against the current, utopia resides. A biennial with a gaze from the South for the South. 172 Cuban artists and 230 artists from the most remote places in the world. The mural painted at the Wifredo Lam Center, “We are not what we were; we can be better,” is part of the ongoing conversation we have as a collective and how our practice relates to our surroundings: a reality that probes our past and sees only a desolate future, which leads us to reflect—from a suspended present—and invoke a “perverse optimism”; where, as artists, we advocate for the transformation of positive ideals and for the possibility that tomorrow can be better.
